KANSAS
CITY, Mo. -- Tony Gonzalez has done something NFL accountants have been
trying to do for decades -- he's made massive amounts of women
interested in the game. Gonzalez has been named one of the sexiest
athletes in the world, and when people call him a "tight end," they're
not always referring to the position that he plays for the Kansas City
Chiefs. The 27-year-old pro hosts a yearly football clinic for female
fans. This year, the clinic was held at a Leawood, Kan., movie theater,
and a gaggle of women showed up to meet the tight end firsthand. While
the women went under the guise of learning the rules of the game, some
clearly attended the event for the scenery, KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard said.
Gonzalez said he has a tough life for someone who's been caught posing
on beaches with beautiful women, who's been named one of ESPN's 50
sexiest athletes in the world, and who is adored as much out of his
uniform as in it. "It's crazy. When I was a kid, I never thought it
would come to anything like this," the football pro told Hubbard.
Gonzalez has taken his status as Kansas City's most eligible bachelor in
stride, saying he's flattered when women are smitten. He likes the
attention from female fans, but said a few times they've gone too far.
"Probably some X-rated stories ... not X-rated stories, R-rated stories.
You get some indecent proposals sometimes -- which is fun, I have fun
with it," he said. Gonzalez is one to enjoy himself. When he's not on
the field, he might be found dancing at a nightclub or partying at the
Playboy Mansion -- but not always. "It gets kind of hectic sometimes,
and sometimes you want to relax and stay at home, and stay away from
that scene," he said. But it doesn't look like Gonzalez plans to settle
down any time soon -- especially after a Halloween bash at Hugh
Heffner's. But if women and fame are his biggest problems, most men
would happily trade places with Gonzalez, Hubbard said.
The
Chiefs' tight end said all he cares about is that women have taken an
interest in football, and if he's the reason for it, it's OK with him.
