Possessing blazing speed and incredible quickness, Tony Gonzalez entered the National Football League (NFL) in 1997. After just eight professional seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, this six-time Pro Bowl, All-Pro Tight End has established himself as one of the elite offensive performers in the entire Professional Football League. In 2004 Tony set the record with 102 catches to become the first Tight End since 1986 to lead the NFL in receptions. As a result his record setting Jersey is now hanging at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. At the ripe age of 29, the best days of this sensationally talented Hispanic athlete would seemingly still lie ahead ... Endowed with outstanding leaping ability, which, combined with an amazingly flexible six-foot, four inch frame, permits him to stretch out to make some of the more unbelievable catches a tight end has ever made. Tony credits many of his moves on the gridiron to his basketball background, which included a stint on Cal’s “97 “Sweet 16” NCAA Tournament team during his collegiate career.
The true finesse of Tony Gonzalez comes off of the field. Gonzalez has never let his success go to his head. He loves to meet new people and enjoys talking to fans. Tony has hosted his own local Kansas City television program on Fox -TV, “Chiefs Locker Room,” which highlights the team’s player and the games on a weekly basis during the season. Tony was most recently voted by “Men’s Fitness Magazine,’ one of the “Top 25 Most Fittest Men in America.” Tony has also appeared in various roles for both television and film including “Any Given Sunday”, “Arliss” and had a starring role on an episode of “Married to the Kelly’s”. Tony was just featured on ESPN’s “The Worlds Twenty Most Sexiest Athletes.” In 2003-2004 Tony could be seen featured on National ads such as “Reebok”, “Direct Ticket”, and NFL Sunday.
Tony also makes embracing his Hispanic culture a major priority in his life. He is involved with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in both Kansas City and California. He has worked as a presenter at the “Image Awards” and looks to a future of being one of the great Hispanic role models of his community. Tony also founded the “Tony Gonzalez Foundation” in 1998, which supports the Boys & Girls Club, The Shadow Buddies Organization, and various other organizations in both Kansas City and California. Tony recently published a children’s book, which is a first person autobiography of his life.
Gonzalez not only possesses an unquenchable thirst to be considered the very best at his position but the desire to do the same in all other avenues of his life. Encompassing model good looks and a high IQ, there is no doubt that the future looks bright both on and off the field for Gonzalez.
